FOOD SAFETY

Osdam controls the entire production cycle from farm to fork, offering assurance of the quality of our meat, as well as full traceability with the help of integrated software. The farming protocols are audited independently by SAMIC.

PROTOCOL

Our free range and feedlot meat protocols respectively ensures the supply of beef and lamb products to several major retailers, such as Woolworths and Checkers, the hospitality industry, as well as export, produced in line with best practice guidelines and local regulations.

Our protocol considers animal welfare practices, food safety and regulatory requirements from the farm to the in-house abattoir and envisages sustainable farming practices in line with livestock management plans.

ANIMAL WELFARE

We committed to animal welfare and support an ethical stance on humane, and environmentally friendly farming methods. Our animals are free roaming from birth to slaughter with no added hormones or prophylactic antibiotics. Animals are brought off pasture and kept in pens only for medical treatment or examination, adverse weather conditions, security, marketing/tagging, and awaiting loading for transport. Our animals are handled in such a manner to prevent stress or injury. A registered veterinarian prescribes remedies for any health issues and animals are vaccinated against the usual pathological conditions.

EXCLUSIVE PIG PRODUCTION SITE

Osdam Eco Facility's pig farm is used exclusively for the production of free range pork, where natural farming practices remain the main focus of the process. A strict set of standards are followed and is subject to good farming practice at the farm and food safety standards at the in-house abattoir.

ANIMAL WELFARE

Wholesome feed is freely available according to the pigs' nutritional needs, and no animal byproducts, growth promoters, stimulants, hormones, steroids, or routine antibiotics are used. Pigs receive appropriate housing and grazing, freedom of movement, comfort, as well as fresh and clean drinking water at all times. Stress and excessive conditions are managed and strict biosecurity measures adhered to to prevent the occurrence and spread of diseases and parasites.
